Great Yarmouth and District League

It was the turn of the Wiltshire Cup to take centre stage as one first-round replay and six second-round ties were played, pitting first and second division teams together.

In the first round replay at Lynn Grove, Yarmouth Peelers faced off against Yarmouth United. The the visitors went through courtesy of a Chris Gilchrist strike to set up a second-round meeting with Caister A on December 11.

In the second round, the holders Catfield made it through against new youth side Caister Youth. The experience of the holders shone through as they progressed into the quarter-finals.

However, Caister Youth are an excellent addition to the league with their brand of passing football. They will look to bounce back this week with a place up for grabs in the quarter-finals of the Primary Cup when they entertain Diss Town A.

Feathers visited Belton at Burgh Castle and it was the first division side who sneaked through 2-1. Feathers will play either Caister A or Yarmouth United in the quarter-finals.

GY International faced a very tricky tie at Arches on Gorleston Rec. However, International saw off the threat to move forward in the competition with a 4-2 win.

They will face Albion in the quarter-finals after they powered past Norfolk and Chance 7-1 on the Beaconsfield.

Bohemians set up a visit to the holders Catfield after they defeated South Yarmouth 8-2 at Halvergate.

The all-second division clash went by the form book as Carpathians, who are riding high in the division, defeated a fast-improving Martham A 3-1 at Ormesby.

Outstanding ties to be played are between MK United v Caister CC and Caister A v Yarmouth United, set for December 11.

The draw in full for the quarter-finals: Caister A or GY Utd v Feathers, Catfield v Bohemians, Carpathians v MK Utd or Caister CC, Albion v GY International.

The Percy Nockolds line-up is almost complete and will be drawn on December 12.

In Division One, MK United cantered to three points at Caister to move up to fourth while in Division Two, Caister CC opened up a six-point lead after beating MK United Reserves 4-0. Prostar Windows are up to third after a 7-1 win over Wellington.

The league is delighted to announce the plans are in place for it to have its results read out live on The Beach radio station at 103.4 at 5.45pm straight after the matches.

For this to work clubs are asked to text in results in asap after their game is finished to the league secretary. There are a few minor details left to sort out but hopefully this will start in next couple weeks.
