Great Yarmouth Town will be hoping to maintain their tag as the league’s best defensive team this weekend.

The Bloaters have played four games this season in the Thurlow Nunn First Division this season and won them all – and their defence has yet to be breached by an opposition player.

It means Town are the only side in the league’s two divisions who have yet to concede a goal this season.

The four league wins have left them fourth in the table, with games in hand on those around them, but their record will come under scrutiny again tomorrow when they host Debenham LC.

The odds will be stacked in Yarmouth’s favour – Debenham are 16th in the 19-team table and have just four points from five outings. However, three of those points came away from home and in their last game, when they thumped Needham Market 5-1 at the weekend – although that form is perhaps misleading as Needham have lost all six of their games and already have a goal difference of -17.

Yarmouth go into the game on the back of an excellent 4-2 FA Vase win away to Boston Town last weekend.

An intriguing FA Vase fixture pitted the in-form Bloaters away to UCL Premier Division high-flyers Boston Town.

The Bloaters included six players under 19 and Connor Deeks returned after serving a three-match suspension.

On a perfect day for football the scene was set for a fascinating FA Vase battle between two very committed sides.

The Bloaters were quick out of the blocks and forced a flurry of corners which came to nothing.

After that the home side settled and eventually got the goal their excellent interplay deserved in the 20th minute.

The Poachers continued their slick passing game, but after a couple of corners in the 25th minute parity was restored when Jay Turner set up Deeks to blast home from 25 yards.

Bloaters started the second half well but the home side re-took the lead in the 50th minute.

Even worse was to follow as Lee Roots was booked for an innocuous looking challenge and coach Catchpole was sent to the stands.

To cap it all in the 63rd minute Ady Ager limped off with a thigh injury.

But the pressure on the hosts finally told in the 78th minute when good work by Turner and a cross by Bailey eventually found McAvoy who smashed in a 15-yard volley.

The Bloaters were rampant whilst the hosts appeared to have run out of steam, and in the 85th minute Cullumbine waltzed through the defence and rattled the post.

In the 88th minute Deeks slid a pass to Cullumbine who raced past the last defender and unselfishly squared to Forbes who duly smashed home the winner, much to the delight of the players, management and travelling support.

The home side went searching for an equaliser but were caught on the break.

Cullumbine found himself all alone with only the goalkeeper to beat and he fired his shot into the net from 30 yards to complete a fabulous victory.

It was a great game to watch between two fully committed sides and the second-half performance from the Bloaters was one of the best for some considerable time.

Boston Town is a lovely, hospitable club, very gracious in defeat, and a very good side and deserve better support from the good people of Boston.
