Beccles 0 Acle 5

Nathan Thompson continued his rich vein of scoring form when Acle visited Beccles by getting on the scoresheet twice as the visitors kept their Sterry Cup push in top gear.

Acle played their nap hand against a strong side that gave as good as they got except in the scoring charts where the vistors came up trumps with a never-say-die performance..

After 31 minutes Daniel Foreman drove a tremendous free-kick into the hosts’ penalty area which Beccles couldn’t deal with and Thompson was on hand to react like lightning.

Play remained even for the rest of the first half with Acle just about shading the play with some exciting all-action football that the hosts at times struggled to come to terms with especially wingmen Randall and Hipperson with Foreman and Colk lending support.

After 13 minutes of the second half Daniel Foreman curled a vicious corner kick directly into the far corner to put Acle two ahead and give some breathing space on the scoreline.

A further five minutes were played before Adam Hipperson at last got the goal his effort deserved when he picked up the ball just inside the hosts half and duly went past four defenders before sending a bullet of an effort past the bewildered keeper..

Maddison got his name on the scorelist with 27 minutes on the clock with a typical piece of close control before getting number four.

He then turned provider by crossing to Nobbs, who headed square for Thompson to wrap up an excellent team performance.

Acle moved to the top of the Anglian Combination Premier Division on Tuesday night when they beat visitors Norwich St Johns 4-0. Thompson hit his 24th goal in 30 games this season, with Danny Colk (pen), Simeon Randall and Luke Goreham also on target. Acle are a point clear of reigning champions Cromer, who have a game in hand but an inferior goal difference. Tomorrow the Crabs host third-placed Blofield. Acle’s final game at St Andrews is to be arranged.
