A THUNDER burst that changed the official going from “good” to “soft” put racing back by half an hour yesterday at Great Yarmouth Racecourse.

The first race got off on time, but the second - ironically the BLP WaterAid Selling Stakes - was delayed by 30 minutes.

There was a major upset in the opening Xtrashine Ltd Staff Day Out Maiden Auction Stakes when 20-1 chance Perfect Ch'i defeated the 2-9 odds-on favourite Tomintoul Singer.

The delayed selling race went to Mary Helen at 9-2 - trained in Shropshire by handler Mark Brisbourne - while Pumpkin was the 7-4 winner of Free Betting At Thebookiesoffers.co.uk Maiden Stakes for top trainer Sir Michael Stoute.

The 15-8 favourite Al Qeddaaf took the WaterAid Handicap for Newmarket trainer William Haggas and jockey Richard Hills.

Tyfos (9-2) gave trainer Mark Brisbourne his second winner of the day in the Essex & Suffolk Water Handicap, and 50-1 shot Outland took the Chris Harrison Oldest Stag In Town Handicap under a featherweight.

The closing Mouchel Handicap was won by Excelsior Academy at 4-1.

The next racing at Great Yarmouth is on Tuesday evening 16 June when the first race is scheduled for 6pm.
