Gorleston will be looking to push further into mid-table in the Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division, with two home matches coming up in the space of four days.

Boosted by a 2-0 win at FC Clacton last weekend, the Greens entertain Ely City tomorrow (3pm) before welcoming Fakenham Town to Emerald Park on Tuesday evening (7.45pm).

Ely are currently seventh in the table, 15 points ahead of the Greens, although Gorleston do have five games in hand. The Robins were held to a 2-2 home draw by Great Yarmouth Town last time out.

In the return fixture at Ely only a controversial late equaliser denied Gorleston all three points in what was Ricci Butler’s final game as manager.

On Tuesday relegation threatened Fakenham are the visitors for a rearranged league match. The original match saw the Ghosts win 1-0 but they fielded two ineligible players so the match has to be replayed.

Gorleston are currently 18th in the table but have games in hand on all the sides above them and could move as high as 12th with two wins.

The Greens’ second string got back on track with a 3-0 victory over leaders Buxton in Anglian Combination Division Four with Jordan Stanton and Adam Thompson among the goals.

Great Yarmouth are also at home tomorrow, with fifth placed Godmanchester Rovers providing the opposition in another 3pm kick-off.

Saturday’s draw maintained a promising run that has seen the Bloaters move well clear of the bottom three and they will also be looking to move into the top half of the table over the next couple of weeks.

Reflecting on the excellent result at Ely, joint manager Adam Mason said: “It was another great point on the road to add to our total of eight points from 12 and stretch our unbeaten run to four. As ever we will look to build on this.”

The Bloaters once again trusted in youth, with three 17-year-olds starting the game in the shape of Josh Ford, Ray Urry and Kieran Hagan.
