Great Yarmouth Town struck late to earn a point in the Boxing Day derby at Gorleston - but the visitors were still disappointed with the outcome.

Mitch Forbes followed up after seeing Taurean Molloy save his 86th minute penalty to cancel out an early goal from Peter Lambert as the Thurlow Nunn Premier Divisison clash ended in a 1-1 draw.

“Having hit the woodwork three times and having had three efforts cleared off the line maybe we should be disappointed not to have won,” said Sinclair.

“But after a slow, scrappy start which saw us go a goal down we have to be pleased with the character shown to dominate the second half and deservedly grab a point.”

The Bloaters had earlier won 2-1 at Hadleigh and joint manager Adam Mason said: “We have been losing or drawing matches just like that recently, however we ground out a result and gained three more much needed points. While we weren’t at our best it is a vital win that should give us confidence. We brought some youngsters in today who all played their part.”

Having taken four points from two away fixtures over the festive period Great Yarmouth will now be looking to keep up the good work tomorrow when they entertain an Ipswich Wanderers side who are second from bottom in the table but should be in good heart after beating leaders Felixstowe and Walton 1-0 on Tuesday.

Gorleston have a tough away trip tomorrow against a Felixstowe side who will have a point to prove after their shock reverse.

Felixstowe are currently 11 points clear at the top of the table although they have only picked up one point from the last possible nine.

In the return fixture at Emerald Park, in what was Stewart Larter’s first league game in charge after his return to the club, Felixstowe ran out 4-1 winners.

There are no New Year’s Day fixtures in the Thurlow Nunn League, with the action resuming on Saturday week.
