Great Yarmouth Town will be aiming to keep their noses in front in a battle for local pride tomorrow.

The Bloaters moved a point ahead of Gorleston in the Thurlow Nunn Premier Division table last Saturday when they beat visitors Ipswich Wanderers 2-0 while their neighbours were going down 3-2 at leaders Felixstowe and Walton.

The coastal rivals are 17th and 18th respectively in the table, with the Greens having a game in hand, and will be spurred on by a desire for bragging rights as well a position outside the relegation places over the second half of the campaign.

Great Yarmouth hit the road to take on sixth placed Ely City tomorrow while Gorleston visit FC Clacton in one of four away matches in January.

Joint Bloaters’ manager Adam Mason is hoping his side can build on a promising display last weekend.

“That was our most complete performance of the season,” he said. “We had key midfield players missing and Howell and Andersen did a great job for us. The two 17-year-old full backs, Ford and Urry, and our 17-year-old wonder-sub (Hagan) were all excellent and contributed to a fine team performance against a team that beat Felixstowe on Boxing Day. We could and should have scored more but taking seven points from nine over Christmas has given us a massive boost.”

FC Clacton are four places and six points better off than Gorleston, although they have played six games more, but they have won two of their last three matches and three out of their last four home games.

Gorleston Reserves will be looking to put their recent poor run behind them tomorrow when league leaders Buxton visit Emerald Park (2.30pm). The Greens’ second string are eight points behind Buxton in Division Three of the Anglian Combination with two games in hand.

Great Yarmouth Reserves host Sheringham Reserves in Division Four (2.30pm).
