Great Yarmouth Town pick up deserved win after impressive performance

Great Yarmouth Town produced an impressive performance on Saturday to see off a side who had surprisingly beaten leaders Felixstowe in their previous game.

The Bloaters dominated the early stages with the wind at their backs and should have taken the lead as Sanders, Davis and Forbes all had efforts blocked or saved by keeper Fairweather.
Glover and Forbes then both went close as the visitors’ goal led a charmed life.
Young full back Ray Urry also got in on the act as he advanced forwards and had a powerful shot saved by the busy keeper. From a Howell long throw Ager’s header fell to Glover and his goalbound shot was blocked on the line and from the corner Mitch Forbes rose highest but his header shaved the far post.
The Bloaters finally got the goal they deserved five minutes into the second half. Skipper Andersen found Haydn Davis in space on the left and he cut inside and placed his shot wide of the keeper.

More excellent play between Sanders, Andersen and Davis saw another shot blocked before Sanders hit a powerful shot that was saved by Fairweather.
On the hour mark youngster Kieran Hagan replaced Aaron Sanders and a couple of minutes later Glover was replaced by Holmes as the home side looked to kill the game off.

Andersen and Forbes then saw shots saved and dragged wide respectively before the visitors’ centre forward breached the home defence, only to shoot over when in a good position.
Cain Eagleton came on for his debut to replace Mitch Forbes and immediately showed some nice touches as he helped to create another shooting chance for Davis that narrowly missed the target.

Hagan was fouled in the centre of the pitch some 30 yards from goal and Chris Holmes’ powerful free-kick was saved spectacularly by Fairweather to keep his side in the game.
With a few minutes left and space all over the Wellesley as the visitors pushed forward Andersen and Davis combined to find Holmes in the penalty area and as he was closed down he spotted Hagan in space but the unmarked youngster rushed his attempt and Fairweather saved.
A minute later the young substitute made amends as he brilliantly wrong-footed the keeper to score the second goal after more good work by Davis and Holmes.
