BASKETBALL A player from Gorleston is making a big impression Stateside in the hugely-competitive American College League.
Patrick Manifold was been named the Association of Division III Independents Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for a second consecutive week.
The University of Maine at Presque Isle forward averaged 22.7 points and 11 rebounds per contest. He shot a blistering 70 per cent from the field, earning a seventh double-double of the season with his 25 points and 15 rebounds in a narrow 73-71 loss to University of Maine at Machias.
He also contributed a career-high score of 30 points in a loss to Vermont Technical College.
Manifold was also named to the Maine Men’s Basketball Coaches’ and Writers’ Association Player of the Week honour roll for his impressive performances.
The 24-year-old, who is an imposing 6ft 7in, started playing basketball when he was at high school in Norwich and was playing for King’s Lynn Fury before winning a four-year US sports scholarship in 2009.
