Great Yarmouth & Gorleston Sailing Club

The racing at Gorleston was part of the monthly Sprint series held throughout the season and raced over windward leeward courses.

Like the recent Lord Birkett Memorial Trophy at Ullswater, the RS400s were dominant, taking all the top places.

Martin Browne and Di Holmes led for most of race one, although Tom Carr and Sarah O’Flynn sailing a 505 did move ahead during lap three, only to lose it on the final lap. Browne and Holmes took the race win with Richard Brown and Pete Vickers second.

After a poor first lap Steve Shaw and Ed Anderson in their Hobie Tiger found some form to lead the fleet in race two.

At the finish they were several minutes ahead of the dinghies but on corrected time could only manage sixth.

Richard Fryer and Carol Smalls led the dinghies, and after the first lap they had build up a minute lead over the rest of the fleet.

On the final lap Browne and Holmes put in a late charge to finish just four seconds behind at the finish.

In the final race of the day Shaw and Anderson lapped nearly half the fleet, but on corrected time were just out of the podium places finishing fourth. Browne and Holmes led the rest of the fleet and finished with a comfortable lead over Fryer and Smalls.
