RUGBY: Lowesotft & Yarmouth are on their travels again this week when they head to Newmarket for the last away league fixture of the season.

L&Y’s away form in London League 3NE this season has been as impressive as their home form.

The have lost only once, at the start of the campaign to a gutsy Wanstead side. But Newmarket are never an easy side to play and should provide strong opposition for the already-promoted L&Y.

Lowestoft retain the same squad that dismantled a weakened Wisbech team in the senior vase last week 73-0. The only change to the starting line-up is young full-back Tom Dare moves to outside-half, and L&Y welcome back Brad Sutherland at 15 after three weeks away.

Squad: Bristo, Howe, Titterington, Wilkinson, Oakes, Taylor-Crisp, Powles, Thomas, Chapman, Dare, Fewkes, McAlone, Boardley, Palmer, Sutherland, Newton, Adams, Cashman.

Wisbech 0, Lowestoft & Yarmouth 75

L&Y travelled over to Wisbech for what amounted to no more than a training run, as Wisbech had opted to rest most of their first team.

The visitors totally dominated the set-piece play, with Ryan Oakes taking line-out ball at will, and the whole pack took more ball against the head than they had all season.

At half-time L&Y were up by 42 points, with Russ Chapman converting all six tries as he gave a man-of-the-match performance at scrum-half.

The first try came soon after the kick-off, as skipper Marc Thomas made a trademark break through the midfield and passed to Kristen Taylor-Crisp, who ran in an easy score. Next score came as L&Y took the ball from Wisbech scrum and stand-off Matt Jary sent winger Daniel Boardley away to score in the corner.

Following a 40-yard run, Chapman then made the ball available for Thomas to canter under the posts.

Jake Titterington put his name on the score sheet as Chapman fed to Jary, who in turn passed the ball back inside for the big prop to dot down under the posts. Myles McAlone was next to score as the ball went through the hands of Chapaman, Jary, Josh Fewkes, McAlone and then winger Dave Palmer, who took it on and passed back inside for McAlone to run it in.

Just before the break, Chapman made a classic break from the back of a maul and ran 45 yards under the posts.

L&Y made changes for the second half, with Steve Adams coming on for Taylor-Crisp, Calum Cashman coming on for Russ Wilkinson, Greane Newton on for Titterington and Donald McArthur on for Jary. Tom Dare moved to stand-off and Boardley took the full-back slot.

With an all too obvious difference in class, it was never going to be easy to maintain the momentum, but L&Y score another five tries, with Chapman adding four conversions.

Chris Howe scored first following sustained pressure from both backs and forwards; Steve Powles was next as he interplayed with Chapman before crashing over out wide; Richard Bristo made the next try as he bulldozed his way forward and when he was stopped just short, Cashman was on hand to collect and score. Wisbech made a mess of the next line-out and again Howe was on hand to collect the bouncing ball and score.

The final score gave Howe his hat-trick as he forced his way over under the posts.

L&Y: Titterington (Newton), Howe, Bristo, Wilkinson (Cashman), Oakes, Taylor-Crisp (Adams), Thomas, Chapman, Jary (McArthur), Fewkes, McAlone, Boardley, Palmer, Dare.
