ON Sunday the Great Yarmouth and District Athletic Club travelled to King's Lynn for the second, tough fixture in the Anglian League against host club West Norfolk, Ryston, Peterborough, City of Norwich, Ipswich and Diss.

The overall result: 1 Peterborough 803, 2 Ipswich 778, 3 West Norfolk 424, 4 CON 399, 5 Great Yarmouth 283, 6 Diss 249, 7 Ryston 202.

In the inter/senior ladies' section, Sophie McKinna, having been selected for the county team for the England schools' championships at Sheffield, continued her winning ways in the shot with 11.30m, with Katy Barber taking second place in the B event with 6.18m.

In the 100m Katy Barber ran 13.0s for second place and newcomer Molly Baldwin ran 13.9 for third in the B event to help the team to fourth place.

In the under-15 girls age group the club enjoyed the rarity of two winners in the 1500m with Catherine Lee winning the A race (5:21.0) and Frankie Turner the B race in 5:28.5. Louisa Marshall added another victory in the discus with a best-ever throw of 19.97m. Amber Burton had two third places in the 100m and 200m in times of 13.5 and 27.7 with the team finishing fifth.

The under-13 girls had one winner when Lauren Peach in the 100m just took first place in 14.1 with Lucy Brice fourth in the B race in 15.7. Emily Anderson had a great race in the 800m to take second place (2:52.8) with Daisy Taylor finishing third in the B race in 3:02.4. Kate Canhan, competing in her first, ran 32.7 for third place in the 200m and put in a good run in the 1500m for fourth place in 6:11.0. Another new competitor Rhiannon Clark ran in the 800m and 200m with times of 3:13.8 and 35.2, the team finished fifth.

Abbie McKinna, competing in the under-11 events, had her best run in the 80m, finishing in 14.9.

The junior/senior men's section had one winner, Jahmal Mills in the long jump with 6.55m. Chris Peck produced two personal bests in the 100m 11.7 in second place and 25.5 in the 200m in fifth place. Wesley Attew jumped 1.70m in the high jump for third place. Kevin Pywell, after 20 years, put on his running vest to compete in the 3000m, finishing in fifth in 12:11.3. The team finished fifth.

In the under-17 boys' section James House had the best result with second place in the javelin with 28.59m and James Lee was also second in the B event with 15.19m. Shane Atherton had his best run ever in the 200m, finishing in third place in 25.3 to help the team finish third.

In the under-15 boys Mark Phillipson had his best result in the shot with 9.26m for second place and ran 28.1 for third place in the 200m. Keelan Pywell ran another good 1500m, taking second place in 5:04.7 and Oliver Brice was fourth in the 100m in 15.6. Kyle Ella running in the 800m put in an excellent run, finishing fourth in 2:34.3 and then had a third place in the 400m with 70s to help the team finish fourth.

The under-13 boys team's best result was Jay Turner who threw 19.42m in the javelin for second place then ran 2:47.2 for fifth place in the 800m. The team was sixth.

The club meets on Tuesdays and Thursday nights at the Wellesley at 7pm and anyone over the age of nine is welcome to go along and

try different events under the guidance of coaches. The first night is free - just report at the tea hut.
