Three of the area's rising sports stars - shot putter Sophie Mckinna, kickboxer Luca McComb and boxer Jade Munro - have achieved well again or are about to try and gain further honours.

Sophie Mckinna ,aged 15-years-old from Bradwell, travelled to Kent last weekend to compete in the U17 shot putt at the Southern Outdoor Championships, following her success at last weekend's European Youth Olympic trials in Moscow.

She had won gold at the Southern Indoor Championships at Lee Valley in London during January, where she broke the championship best performance that had stood since 1994 with a throw of 13.18 metres.

Sophie won gold in Kent with a throw of 13.68 metres which beat the championship best performance of 13.61 metres that had stood since 1981. This was the longest standing record of the championships.

Any local companies or individuals who are interested in sponsoring Sophie can contact her father Andrew on 07733 137206.

Eight-year-old kickboxing superstar Luca McComb became the undisputed -25k kilo under nines full contact kickboxing champion last weekend in front of 5,000 people at the Birmingham NEC Martial Arts exhibition when he defended his junior British full contact title against Birmingham's Korben Roche from the famous Saxon Gym.

In a hard-fought bout his aggression and non-stop punch combinations set up by his excellent jab, gave him a unanimous decision from the judges.

Luca, who trains at the 3 Lions Kickboxing Gym in Yarmouth and is trained by his uncle Dave Munro and world champion Bin Tyler, is ranked number one in the country by both the WKA (World Kickboxing Association) and the JFCC (Junior Full Contact Council). The 3 Lions fighter has won the WKA and JFCC full contact -25 kilo British titles and the NAK semi contact national title this year, and would have been in the junior England team but is six months too young to qualify as the junior world championships are for ages nine to 17.

Luca has been training since he was five and has now had an amazing 35 fights (22 semi-contact and 13 full contact), he is back in action next weekend with team mates Ben Mitchell (13) and Henry Andrews (13) in Kettering Northants.

Kingfisher boxer, Jade Munro, bids to become the first-ever Norfolk boxer to win a female national boxing title as she has got through to the Schoolgirl National ABA finals on June 5, in Portsmouth.

Thirteen-year-old Jade, already a kick and Thaiboxing champion, has a tough task, against hard-hitting local favourite Tilly Evans from the Heart of Portsmouth ABC. But Jade, who has made substantial improvements in her boxing skills, has impressed her Kingfisher coaches, who believe she has every chance of winning the title and adding to the Kingfishers' long list of champions.
