Local man Dale Hurren who runs for Norwich Road Runners, has decided to donate all his running trophies, plaques and medals to clubs, schools or organisations who would be interested in having them.

He said that having competed in numerous cross-country and road races over 25 years, he now feels ready to part with them and let the youngsters of today benefit from them.

He ran his first London Marathon in 1983 in 3hr 19min and in 1991 he completed the course in the impressive time of 2hr 34min, finishing in the top 300 of over 35,000 runners.

Hurren and his youngest son Thomas, aged 22, have applied to run London in 2011, when Dale's aim will be to keep up with his son, 30 years his junior, for as many miles as possible.

Dale said: “Although I am as highly motivated in training as I was 25 years ago, age does slow you down. I still train at least 70 miles per week.

“I am pleased to donate the trophies to prove to youngsters that hard work, motivation and dedication can, and will, achieve results.”

Any club, school or organisation who would like to apply for one of Dale's trophies can email him at daleparadise@yahoo.com or write to 21 Manor Road, Caister-on-Sea, NR30 5HG. Applications must be submitted by September 17.
