THE draw for the second round of the Mummery Cup brought together this clash of Premier League teams Acle and Loddon - both of whom had high hopes of success in this season's competition.
After 90 minutes of normal time plus extra time, supporters were faced with a penalty
shoot-out.
Both sides had battled out a keen contest without registering any goals at either end although they had both struck the woodwork, Thompson for Acle and Marjoribanks for the visitors.
Acle had young Scott Foreman to thank for keeping them in the game by making several crucial saves when left virtually unprotected at times during this pulsating cup tie against one of the much-fancied teams, looking for honours come May.
The hosts weren't helped by the ever-increasing injury list which includes Wright, Melo, Rathbone and Holsworth.
But they are able to see light at the end of the tunnel with the signing of Richie Fruin, whose class was warmly appreciated by the good-size crowd when he came off the substitutes' bench during the second half. But the home side lost the shoot-out 4-3.
