The final stages of the Great Yarmouth July Triples tournament took place on Sunday, sponsored by the Borough Council, the Beach Terrace Tea Rooms, the Princes Tea Rooms and Belt-Up Trophies from Lanarkshire who supplied the trophies.

The final was between Max Harrison, John Tufts and Wayne Willgress who played Ian Anderson, Keith Cooke and Josh Baxter.

The game was played in miserable conditions and with the Willgress triple playing well, they won the first five ends to lead 5-1 after four of the 14 ends to be played.

Baxter scored a single shot on the next end, only for Willgress to score a single on the next two. Baxter hit back to score a single and a double to trail by three, but the Willgress triple then scored a five and a three on the next two ends to run out worthy winners, 16-5.

In their semi-final the Baxter triple played Wayne’s father Chris and his partners Charles West and James Segolo. The game saw Willgress’ trio leading 12-4 after seven ends but they then failed to score another shot, losing 15-12.

In his semi-final Wayne Willgress played last year’s winners Daniel Seabourne, Phil Parsons and George Tubby. It was close early on with the scores level after five ends at 5-5 and after 10 ends it was 9-9. Willgress then scored on the next four ends to win 16-9.

Losing quarter-finalists were Derek Green, Peter Evans and Roy Pooley; Sam Coverdale, Mat Flatman and Richard Summers; Zoe Roberts, James Browse and Tony Roberts; and Karl Staff, Paul Lovett and John Merrison.
