The Great Yarmouth Sunday Football League finally drew to a close with the remaining finals and league position decided. In the cup finals Windmill Reserves won the Division Two league cup 1-0 against a disappointed Acle Wanderers who lost their second final in a week. In the KO Cup El Sol and Belton fought out a goalless draw and El Sol won 4-2 on penalties, Belton then appeared again in the Division Three cup final on the Tuesday and had a disappointing 1-0 defeat to a good GY Galaxy.

In the league Windmill retained the Division One title despite losing their last two league games, away to Hemsby and suffering a 5-2 defeat to second-placed El Sol, who again finished runners-up. At the other end of the table Carparthians and Hemsby FC finished as the bottom two. In Division Two both Tramway, who are champions and Acle Wanderers who finished second, bounced straight back to first division after being relegated last season. AC Mill Lane’s gallant attempt to take second spot ended when they suffered defeat to Windmill Reserves on the Thursday losing 3-1, but they bounced back on the Sunday wining 4-2 against Hemsby Athletic.

Division Three sees Belton United finish a successful season, as champions and reaching three cup finals including a county cup final. Runners up were Caister Sunday. Congratulations to all teams who have taken part in the league this season, and hopefully you have achieved your own goals for your club and prepared to join the league again next season.

There is still one cup final to play this season., on the 15th May at Carrow Road, kick-off 7:30. It is Windmill’s Norfolk Sunday Senior cup final against Doghouse from Norwich.

The Great Yarmouth Sunday Football League sponsored by the Cliff Hotel is holding a presentation evening at the Cliff Hotel on the 24th May, 7.30.

The league would like to promote this event to all Sunday league players past and present. The evening consists of a three course dinner.Guest speakers who have played in the league, but also had a professional career are Sammy Morgan and Paul Gibbs, and further variety entertainment.
