Following a busy week for Great Yarmouth cycling Club’s road racers, this week saw another busy schedule of time trials and circuit races.

Unfortunately the club time trial on Thursday was cancelled due to road resurfacing around a section of the Somerleyton circuit. Following an inspection from club chairman, Norman Harlow, it was deemed unsafe to race on.

Earlier in the week the GYCC road racers attended the final round of the Lotus League at the Hethel test track, just outside Norwich.

As usual, the pace was high from the outset and many riders were struggling to hang onto the bunch.

Seasoned road racer, Ian Sandall, took several long turns on the front, driving the pace up whilst newly promoted Cat 3 rider, Chris Sharrock, sat in the bunch and worked hard with his team-mate to ensure a strong finish for GYCC. Both riders performed well and were able to finish within the top 15.

The results for the junior Go-Ride and Go-Race events of the Lotus League were sent out soon afterwards, with some fantastic news for GYCC.

The Boys U12 race was dominated by Great Yarmouth riders, with all three podium places taken up with club members.

The winner of the U12 category was James Jordan with 45 points, followed by Harrison Charlwood (32 points), whilst Matthew Baker finished third overall with 26 points.

Having secured the top three places in this event goes to show how strong the GYCC junior team is and highlights all the effort put in during the winter months at the Great Yarmouth Stadium coaching sessions.

The club has high hopes for these future stars and looks forward to coaching them for further success in the coming seasons ahead.

Following the success of the club’s junior team, it was the chance for one of GYCC’s top veteran riders to display his time trialling prowess on Sunday, during the Eastern District Cycling Association’s annual 100 mile trial.

Experienced time triallist, Paul Anderson, was the only GYCC member to take part in the event, however he did the club proud by riding superbly for a time of 5 hours 11 minutes – a fantastic result for such a challenging and tiring event.

Following last week’s cancellation, this week was set see the continuation of the club 10 mile time trial series in Somerleyton, starting at 7pm and open to all ability riders.

GYCC is also still hosting the club nights on Tuesday evenings from 7pm at Cliff Park Junior School, where riders can join in the social ride through the surrounding country lanes, led by experienced club members, or partake in the ‘Sufferfest’ workout in the hall.

GYCC welcomes riders of all abilities and can even provide bikes and safety equipment for those who would like to try it out.
