WINTERTON, the Norfolk League Division One leaders, provided probably their most clinical display of the season so far to secure their tenth league victory, against Ketteringham Hall by nine wickets.

After heavy overnight rain the Winterton skipper Kevin Percival inserted the opposition.

His decision was justified as Ketteringham scored only one run off the bat in the opening five overs.

In that time they had lost opener Howes for nought, very well caught one-handed at cover by a leaping Martin Witheridge off the bowling of Percival.

Quinton and Walker kept picking up runs slowly but were finding it very difficult against Percival and Utting.

Quinton (10) then tried to clip Percival off his legs, only to find Witheridge close in on the leg side, who held his second excellent catch one-handed low to his left.

Bush came in and in total contrast to what had gone before hit his first and third balls for six. He and Walker began to accumulate some runs until Percival turned to his spinners.

Josh Austin came into the attack first with his off spin and soon bowled Bush for 16 and had Walker caught at square leg by Snowling for 26.

Snowling then came on at the other end and found a large amount of turn and bounce. The pair worked their way through the batting order.

Although some of the Ketteringham batsmen got a start, as soon as they tried to break the shackles imposed by the bowlers it resulted in a catch going to a fielder or being bowled.

Any chances that did go in the air were all taken in a good fielding display exemplified by Witheridge's two early catches and that of young Brian Pilkington at deep long on.

Austin finished with his first five-wicket haul for Winterton, for 28 runs, and Snowling ended with 3-10. Ketteringham had subsided to 99 all out in the 35th over.

The Winterton reply got under way straight away and there was a need to get on with chasing down the total as the rain clouds were gathering.

Clarke and Austin got off to a brisk start with Clarke hitting the first-ball to the boundary. The pair were picking up a boundary an over until, with the score on 19, Bush got the ball to bounce a little more and Austin edged the ball to gully for 11.

Geoff Roper came to the crease, and after a slight scare early in his innings got into his stride. Clarke was also hitting some crisp shots and the score moved along at a rate of five an over.

Although the Ketteringham skipper changed his bowlers around, the experienced pair were rarely troubled and Clarke eventually hit the winning boundary to take the score to 102-1 in the 22nd over. Clarke remained 45 not out and his partner Roper 42 not out.
