WINTERTON secured their Norfolk League Division Two promotion place with a comfortable five-wicket win at home to Drayton on Saturday.

Drayton were asked to bat first and, despite an early loss, looked fairly comfortable until Charles Lockhart smartly ran out P Egget and then bowled P Wright for 21, helping reduce the visitors to 47-4.

G Smith (24) and M Mario-Gaie (12) decided to go on the attack for Drayton, but their recovery was short-lived with Richie Larner claiming the last of his three wickets to finish with an excellent 3-30.

Tom Roper (2-16) and Tom Whichelow (3-9) ended the Norwich side's resistance as they were dismissed for 110, their last four wickets falling for two runs.

Winterton's innings got off to a flying start thanks to Josh Austin (24) and Wes Noble-Parker (25) but the pair fell in quick succession to the impressive left arm bowling of G Smith.

Winterton soon recovered to 95-2 but they then lost three wickets on that score, again thanks to Smith (4-28) to put the pressure on the league leaders.

However, Liam Boylan and Ben Utting saw the Tonnies through without further loss to win by five wickets.

A trip to Topcroft could see Winterton crowned champions this Saturday with a win.
