Great Yarmouth Cycling Club’s Thursday time trial saw 12 riders take part in less than perfect conditions due to a strong headwind.

However two Great Yarmouth CC riders set course bests for the year,

Chessie Wood knocked 17 seconds of her previous best, setting a new time of 33:12 (18.1mph) while Jan Smith knocked two seconds of her previous course best for the year, finishing in 28:48 (20.8mph). Smith was also fastest woman of the night.

The fastest Great Yarmouth rider was Michael Morris, who completed the course in 26:18 (22.8mph). The event was won by Lucas He of Velo DClub Bracchi in 23:39 (25.4mph).

Saturday saw Iceni Velo’s inaugural 10 mile time trial on the B10/43.

Weather conditions were dry but riders were faced with a tough return leg into the wind.

Jenny Anderson, who is currently nursing a knee injury, completed the course in 26:06, making her the third fastest woman of the day.

Brian Carr, who is making an amazing return to cycling after 32 years off, completed in 25:56 while Tom Moore finished in 24:38, setting himself a new course best in the process.

Jonny Hawes was the fastest Great Yarmouth rider of the day, setting a time of 22:47. The event was won by Daniel Bloy in 20:34.

On Sunday Godric CC held their 50 mile time trial, with the club using this event so that riders can compete for the University Cup. The event saw quite a small field turn out due to weather conditions, with a very strong wind and rain threatening.

Only two Great Yarmouth CC riders turned out to take part, Jan Smith set a new personal best, completing in 2:31:10 while Julian Claxton showed excellent form, completing in 2:09:24 and therefore winning the University Cup in the process.

Hopefully Claxton will have better conditions when he takes part in the 100 mile time trial in two week’s time. The overall event was won by Matthew Senter in 1:48:51.

RAF Marham rider Ian Lee won the VC Norwich men’s road race at Great Cressingham after overhauling Tom Ellwood (CC London) who had attacked early as a breakaway group of 10 approached the finish.

The afternoon women’s race went to Junior rider Emily Ashwood (Team OnForm).
