SCHOOL FOOTBALL: Woodlands Primary School have been presented with the Great Yarmouth Schools’ Football Association league trophies in both competitive age groups.
The boys teams from Years 5 and 6 both completed their matches unbeaten in a season from September to April, winning all nine matches and scoring over 50 goals in the process.
Ten schools from the Yarmouth area participate in the two mini-soccer leagues.
Coaches Stuart Aldous and Aidy Simm praised the squad’s commitment in the presentation assembly, with 40 players turning up every week for eight months of training no matter the conditions, and working hard to improve their game and fitness levels.
The team played attractive, passing football with a positive attitude towards each other and the opposition, whilst demonstrating good sportsmanship throughout the season.
Year 6 played and won all eight matches and will now leave the school having played for two seasons unbeaten.
The Year 6 team also won the GYSFA Cup, the seven-a-side Saturday tournament and finished as county runners-up.
The Year 5 team also won all of their matches and have a bright future ahead of them.
In a special full school assembly, with parents in attendance, the squad were presented with both league shields.
Great Yarmouth Schools FA secretary Graham Gibbons spoke at the presentation, which showed photographs of the team in action and a season review.
The players then received their awards courtesy of league sponsors Gorleston Rotary Club.
