EDWARD Worlledge Middle School hosted the Great Yarmouth Schools FA Cup final. In wet conditions Flegg High and Woodlands Middle Year 7 teams battled, producing good football on show.

Woodlands were hoping to retain the trophy and had worked hard in training on set pieces after a poor league match against Flegg two weeks earlier.

Woodlands, who had beaten Acle, Worlledge and Wroughton en route to the final, took the lead through a long-range free-kick from Jack Burrell. A defensive lapse at a corner led to the equaliser a minute before half-time.

The second half saw a tough midfield battle with few chances being created. Woodlands' Jordan Huggins, deputising in goal, dealt with the Flegg chances comfortably whilst a revamped defence swarmed the Flegg strikers.

Woodlands regained the lead by capitalising on a cross from Caine Bacon that Daniel Kemp tapped over the line. MoM Jack Burrell completed his hat-trick with two audacious free-kicks, each from 35 yards.

Flegg pushed forward in numbers and scored from a goalmouth scramble in the dying minutes, but the defence and five-man midfield worked together to close out the game and retain the trophy.

Woodlands were presented with the trophy for the sixth time from Graham Gibbons, secretary of the GYSFA, with captain Robbie Fryer lifting the cup.

Special thanks went to the officials and the Flegg team and staff for such a sporting contest.
