Following the penultimate round of this popular Suffolk series Deben hold pole position with 56 points with Pownalls four adrift on 52 points in what has become a two horse race in the final showdown on the Cross Drove fishery next month, writes Roy Webster.

In Sunday's fourth round on the Suffolk water park complex the winners were Big Hits with 12 penalty points the DAD Pink with 28 and Deben 30 with Pownalls narrowly edged out of the main frame.

Top individual was Steve Crowe (DAD Pink) with 79lb 13oz and P/B'S best was Adie Hindry, fourth with 46lb 6oz.

Meanwhile the Great Yarmouth Saturday series on the tidal river Yare continued to produce amazing roach returns along the Beachamp Arms match stretch.

Despite a rising flood tide that flooded some sections of the bank the latest round was won by Nick Larkin (Nisa Waverney) with 41lb then John Talor (SENSAS) 35lb 13oz and Kevin Paynter (Yarmouth) 32lb 8oz. On the lakes Gorleston Jolly Boy Ray Kent completed a splendid open match double with 67lb at the Railway and 79lb at Mill Farm.

On the big carp scene there were few fish of note. The best from Taswood was a 22lb mirror for Rollesby's Keith Howard while Steve Elisi of Acle netted a 23lb 4oz common from the Lyng Kingfisher lakes.

Along the beaches high spring tides last weekend wrecked beach fishing because of suspended weed clogging lines and terminal tackle.

However, with the tides subsiding along with the moon reaching it quarter prospects for whiting and codling are more promising.

Gorleston Tackle Centre Sea League will start on Tuesday at 7pm, fishing on the South Beach at Great Yarmouth (end of the Pleasure Beach).

Any new members would be welcome and the costs are �10 to join and then �10 pool payable on the night per match.

There will be 10 matches in the series fished every two weeks.
