Gorleston fell from the dizzy heights, losing 6-1 at Freethorpe while Great Yarmouth A had a very good win 6-1 against Martham A.

Bradwell A started their campaign with maximum points at Fleggburgh.

In Division Two, Caister won well away to Bradwell B 6-1 and Cantley won 5-2 against Freethorpe B but the scores were not phoned in.

No games this week because of the bank holiday.

Rollesby Bowls Club

Away to Acle in the Three Wood County League, Rollesby struggled to find any form at all on the larger green and were well beaten on all three rinks, overall score 44-72, points 0-9.

If Rollesby have any hopes of finishing in the top spots in the Broadland League then they must beat their rivals when enjoying home advantage, something they failed to do against Wroxham.

Despite winning on two rinks (J Avery, A Palmer, T Avery 18-14, S Daniels, E Taylor, J Catchpole 24-12) it was not enough in the final reckoning and the home side went down narrowly 63-67, points 2-5.

Playing Runham in the Don Pearce with both teams restricted by the tight home green for the roving cot format, Rollesby lost in the tightest of games.

After 21 ends, scores were identical and in the extra end played by all blocks, Runham were victors by one shot (F Walker, T Coots, T Avery

18-13, J Avery, E Taylor, T Wright

21-13).

Rollesby enjoyed better fortunes in the Duffield League against Repps with good wins on two rinks (J Seeranj, P Taylor, A Palmer 20-8 and J Temple, J Wheaton, R Blunden 20-13) which helped them to a narrow points win 6-4, overall score 61-51.

Entertaining Halvergate in the Broadland League, Rollesby had one of their better results of the season so far. Despite losing on one rink by a single shot, good wins by the remaining blocks (M Coots, T Wilkin, T Coots 18-15, F Walker, S Allen, B Catchpole 24-14 and J Avery, D Gammon, T Avery 38-9) saw the home side record a welcome 6-1 win, overall score 93-52.

The week ended with another fine home performance in the County League against Ormesby Blue.

Losing on all three rinks at the halfway stage, the home side rallied to a 9-0 win (J Seeranj, J Mason, D Gammon 16-12 (despite dropping a six), S Daniels, P Taylor, B Catchpole 24-15 and J Avery, T Bolton, M Thomas 14-13 (after trailing 0-8 at six ends).

Great Yarmouth BC

THE Great Yarmouth Federation side came down to earth with a bump after their fine start to the season when they went to Gorleston and lost 62-80 (1-6).

T Westgate, J Elliott and D Bowers dropped a six and never recovered to lose 17-21. M Yarrow, A Smith and S Carpenter never got to grips with their game and lost 15-20. F Thompson, A Towers and S Wheeler were never in the game and lost 10-20. S Hopwood, J Dispain and R Albone battled well to win 20-19.

The ladies, in the Lovewell Blake Malta Cup, after a bad start to the season, got back on track beating Gorleston 65-52 (5-1).

M Oarm, P Ellis and C King led the way with some heavy scoring to win 32-10. S Allen, J Saunders and S Wheeler with the help of a six held on to win 18-16. J Burrage, J Warnes and M Lynes dropped 11 shots in two ends and never recovered to lose 15-26.

In the national top ten competition the ladies were at home to Connaught Bowls Club from Diss and the home team won on two rinks and lost on two rinks but won the game on shots 76-67.

In the singles J Howlett lost a close game 17-21. In the pairs P Ellis and C King came from behind to win 22-14. In the triples M Oram, J Saunders and J Wheeler started well but fell away to lose 8-22 and in the fours S Allen, M Lynes, J Warnes and B Payne started well and never eased to win 29-10.

In the ladies' county singles J Howlett lost 11-21 to L Knights and to complete a disastrous week J Howlett went out of the champion of champions singles 13-31 to J Deerman (Swaffham).

In the county pairs P Ellis and C King lost 19-20 after an extra end and in the county fours J Burrage, J Howlett, P Ellis and C King won

22-17.

Ormesby BC

IN the Three Wood Federation League, Ormesby Blue team had a disappointing evening losing on all three rinks at home to Caister.

M Hunt, J Chegwidden and K Dongray lost 15-18, M Smith, M Chegwidden and D Humphries lost 13-15 and M Gedge, J Jenkins and P Downes lost 15-21. Loss overall 0-9, 43-54.

Ormesby Red team played Martham at home and lost 9-0.

The Ormesby EBA team played away to Norfolk Police and lost 4-1. Ormesby best block were B Rafferty, F Shaw, K Dongray and P Clutterbuck. Thanks go to K Scott-Greenard as a very late stand-in due to a call-off.

In the Great Yarmouth and District Bowls League Division Two, Ormesby B team won at home against Hickling 74-67(5-2). Ormesby winning blocks were J Bratton, M Hunt and F Shaw 27-10 and D Picot, E Flint and D Horne 23-18.

Caister BC

EBA: At home in the Hansell League, Caister won against Freethorpe 5-0.

Away in the Malta Cup against Bradwell, Caister won 82-49(6-1).

The ladies playing at home against Ormesby won 72-33(6-0).

Playing Bradwell home and away in the Fermoy Cup Caister lost by three shots.

Federation: County League: All three teams had good wins, Caister A away against Filby 65-41(9-0), Caister Castaways home against Hickling B 62-40(9-0), Caister Centurions away against Ormesby Blue 54-43(9-0).

Yarmouth & District League: Caister B playing Ludham at home lost 58-90(1�-5�).

In the Donny Pearce Cup First Round Caister B played Martham B at Martham and lost 59-91.

Bradwell BC

THE Bradwell Ladies Top Club team were disappointed at Hunstanton. However, in the fours Dahlia Macdonald, Jean Fagan, Joan Bayfield and Jean Moore maintained their pride with a 27-16 win. Despite support from other rinks, Bradwell lost the match by four shots.

Bradwell's Lovewell Blake Men's Malta Cup A team played away against Flegg Private.

Keith Cooke, John Burwood and Dennis Pratt, 14-16 on the 17th, contrived three shots on the last to complete an all-rinks win.

The Red and the Green teams lost in the Norfolk County Federation League against Hickling and Flegg Village respectively.

After several tentative ends, Peter King, Paul Vincent and Charles Hutcheson overtook on the 12th, giving the Green team one victory, 17-11.

In the Hansells Norfolk County EBA League, the A team gained five points at home to St Marks. Malcolm French, Terry Payne, Colin Deverill and John Burwood overwhelmed their opponents and there were good wins on the other two rinks.

Away against Great Plumstead, the B team recorded a win, a draw and a one-shot loss to register 66-53. Alan Harrison, Eric Brooks, Peter Ridler and Bryan Vincent had 20-11 on the 18th, and added four shots on each of the next two ends to win 28-14, but only after their defiant opponents snatched three on the last.

In the Lothingland League match at home against the Cliff Hotel, Bradwell lost overall, but scores of 17-18, 23-24 and 19-18 show the home team's mettle. The last score belonged to Philip Fiske, Barry Hubbard and Roy Turner, prevailing with two shots on the last end.

Against Burrage in the same league Bradwell won on two rinks, but were 13 shots down overall. At home against Hopton, Bradwell had a clear win. In particularly good form on the evening were David Smith, John Ward and Keith Cooke, relentless to 33 shots.

Bradwell progresses into the third round of the Fermoy Cup after their exciting match against Caister.

Ken Saward, Ted Connellan, John Sargent and Ron Beardall twice lost and regained the lead, winning 18-16. Malcolm French, John Burwood, Terry Payne and Dennis Pratt (17-16) were always ahead, but Caister achieved three on the last end to lose by just one.

Hickling BC

THE ladies won one and lost one last week being beaten by Gt Plumstead 5.5-5 and beating Martham by 5-1.

In the Broadland League Hickling lost to Rollesby 5-2 and in the Yarmouth League lost to Ormesby 5-2 but beat Gorleston EBF 7-0.

The A team beat Bradwell 7-2 but the B team lost to Caister 9-0.

This Sunday, at 2pm, Norfolk Under-25s play against Huntingdonshire at Acle St Edmunds Green and would appreciate local support.

Bring your own folding chair and encourage the young bowlers of Norfolk, many of whom are from the Yarmouth area.
