On Sunday Great Yarmouth & District AC finished third in the third fixture of the Anglian League at King’s Lynn against Ipswich, Peterborough, Nene Valley, West Norfolk and Ryston.

This was to be the toughest fixture so far this season. GYDAC’s top team in the league, the U15 girls , were sitting at the top of the table. They had a strong team out, first places were coming in thick and fast. Rhiannon Clarke started with a great win in the 75m hurdles (13.0) adding another 1st in the javelin (26.71m). Amy Dowsett had a great run in the 800m winning in 2:34.8. Phoebe Baker comfortably won the 300m in 43.6 with team-mate Kate Canham taking the B race in 47.7.

Natoya Rimmer showed some great high jumping and put herself in the top 10 in the country with a jump of 1.63m. Jasmin Kemp continued improving with a win in the shot with another PB of 9.01m. Emily Anderson won the discus (24.01m) and Ella Wakely helped to keep the pressure on winning the B event (21.80m).

With a win in the relay this team certainly showed they would take some beating and piled up a great points total winning with 119, second Ipswich 96 and third Nene Valley 82. This increased their lead in the league and they should really win it with one fixture to go.

The U17 boys team were in the top five but were not at full strength. However there were some good performances. Tom Burgess had a good win in the 400m winning in 53.0 with Jordi List finishing third in the B race (59.7) in his first 400m. Dominic Oliver ran 2:07.3 to win the 800m and added another win in the 1500m (4:30.3). Kyle Ella won the B race 1500m (4:36.6) and the B discus with 16.35m. Mark Phillipson had his best performance in the 200m taking third place in 26.1 and fourth in the 100m (13.4). Jay Turner made a welcome return to the team and his javelin throw of 33.12m gave him third place. The team finished second and now sit in third place.

The U13 girls team were second in the league but this was to be a tough fixture. There were no winners and one of the best performances was that of Casey Cork in the 200m B race with a second place (30.5). Chloe Long jumped 1.25m in the high jump for third place with Holly Baker third in the B event (0.90m).

Daisy Spurway had a good run in the 1500m for a third (5:53.0) and Alice Wakeley was fourth in the 100m (16.3). Georgia Clarke had a third place in the 800m (3:24.9) with the relay team finishing fourth. This gave us a fourth place but the team are still in fourth place in the league.

The U13 boys are in eighth place after this match. Connor Dobson had a great long jump competition and his 4.20m jump secured first place. Billy Randell in the 200m won second place with a time of 31.7. Kia Beadle was fourth in the 800m with a time of 2:49.1.

In the senior/junior men’s match Richard Taylor was in fine form and his 100/200m double first was majestic with times of 11.8/23.1. Shane Atherton running the B 100m race clocked 12.4 for second place. Ben Johnson finished third in the 400m (55.1). Andrew Baker and John Pamplin gained valuable points in the 3000m finishing sixth A race 12:22.8/fourth B race 15:06.2. Mark Turner threw 32.25m for a third in the javelin and Geoff Marshall had a third in the hammer. The relay team won giving them fourth place.

The inter /senior ladies team had only one winning performance when Lauren Peach ran a great 300m to win in 43.8. Louisa Marshall in the hammer had a second (26.55m) and Emma Barwick a third in the discus (24.20m).

Caroline Drewitt in the B discus threw 19.52m for second place. Katy Barber had a third in the 100m (13.6) and Emily Steward was fourth in the B race (14.2). Catherine Lee running both the 800/1500m had her best race in the 800m (2:33.7) for second place. The team finished in fourth place to give them seventh place in the league.

Dominic Burnham is really hitting top form at the moment and his 100m/200m double was superb winning both with times of 12.3/23.9. Michael Cross had a good high jump clearing 1.40m for third place. In the 300m Peter Cross had a fifth in the A race (55.0) and in the B race Robert Chapman was second (57.4). With a third in the relay they finished in fourth place.

Overall result: first Ipswich 749, second Peterborough 595, third Gt Yarmouth 461, fourth Nene Valley 459, fifth West Norfolk 220, sixth Ryston 211.
