King's Lynn staged what has been hailed as its best ever banger meeting when the Unlimited Banger Icebreaker XV came to town.

The 2007 event was the best attended Unlimited Banger meeting in Europe when 136 big cars raced - but that record was smashed with 146 cars turning their wheels in anger.

Again Great Yarmouth's top Banger stars journeyed to the Norfolk Arena with Yarmouth's Martin “Bruno” Brunson leading one of the Steam Teams into battle.

Joining him in the Steam Team A were fellow Yarmouth drivers Justin Garman and Danny Sutton while Shaun Randall was racing for the B team.

Brunson and his team were desperately unlucky not to scoop the best material team with their quartet of over 20-year-old Japanese cars including a Toyota Crown for Garman, a Datsun 280C for Brunson and a Nissan 300C Estate for Sutton.

At virtually any other team meeting they would have easily scooped the award, but the Lincolnshire based Bad News Classics just beat them.

Undeterred, the team went on to give a fantastic performance throughout the day and excelled in both the scoring and entertainment stakes with some fantastic performances.

Sutton grabbed a heat win which was backed up by a runner-up spot for Brunson and a further runner-up spot and a fifth place for him in the heats.

But the failure to get any of their drivers home in the top 10 in the final saw the Steam Team fail to make the rostrum, although they still finished a more than credible fifth place.

Brunson was also in an extremely lively mood throughout the day and Garman gave what was described as one of the best performances ever seen in such an event.

Against the odds he refused to allow his car to die and kept the car going, taking out the opposition when it looked impossible.
