March 1 Yarmouth Town 2

A debut goal from Tom Markham helped the Bloaters secure their second consecutive win, away to March.

Markham’s strike five minutes from half time cancelled out Lewis Thompson’s opener before Joe Bryanton’s first goal of the season secured a Thurlow Nunn DIvison One win midway through the second half, writes REBECCA ABBOTT.

Mike Derbyshire made five changes to the side that beat Stowmarket as Ben Cudden replaced Russell Cook in goal while Marian Jobbagy started in place of the unavailable Fernando Vide.

Shaun MacLeod came in for Neil McMorran – a move that saw Joe Bryanton and George Barnden move positions.

Debuts were given to strikers Joel Watts and Tom Markham, who started in place of Danny Scriven and Danny Burkle.

The hosts had the best of the opening stages as Stuart Anderson rolled a shot wide from 18 yards while Yarmouth ‘keeper Ben Cudden was needed to turn a chip from the striker over the bar.

On 11 minutes March took the lead. A clearance from a Yarmouth attack fell to Anderson who slipped the ball through to Lewis Thomson to slot the ball into the bottom far corner.

Yarmouth could have equalised seconds later.

New signing Watts did well to find Markham in the box. The striker, with his back to goal, laid the ball off to Callum Jones but the midfielder’s shot rolled inches past the post.

Charlie McAra volleyed over from 20 yards after Markham’s cross was cleared to the winger, while Callum Jones fired an effort inches over the bar after March half-cleared a Joe Bryanton corner.

On 33 minutes Johnny Jarvis stung the hands of Mark Hipwell, firing a 35 -ard drive at the ‘keeper.

Five minutes from the break Yarmouth got their deserved equaliser.

Callum Jones fed in Joel Watts who was denied by a goal-saving tackle, with the ball falling kindly for Jarvis who floated a cross to the far post, perfect for Tom Markham to head in unmarked from six yards.

After the break George Barnden fired over the bar from 20 yards after a corner was half-cleared while at the other end a last-ditch tackle in the box from the youngster denied Anderson a certain scoring opportunity.

On the hour mark a Shaun MacLeod free kick fell to Jarvis who hit the side-netting.

Yarmouth took the lead midway through the second half from another set-piece. Jones was dumped to the ground by a clattering challenge by Adam Sutton – the defender booked for the tackle.

And it was left to Bryanton to power the resulting free kick under the five-man wall and into the bottom corner of the net.

It could have been three just seconds later, Watts beat March defender Max Mattless to a bouncing ball, toe poking the ball past ‘keeper Mark Hipwell but inches wide.

Marian Jobbagy was denied a tap- in from a yard by a last-ditch tackle while in stoppage time Forbes almost capitalised on a lapse in the March defence, feeding in Watts who hit the side-netting and Thomas powered wide from 16 yards with Forbes following up.
