At Dereham in the first round of the Norfolk Junior League, Great Yarmouth Swimming Club finished second behind the hosts.

Result: Dereham 201 points, Great Yarmouth 178, Little Fish 157, West Norfolk 121, Dereham B 85, North Norfolk Vikings 71.

The 9yr boys got the club off to a good start, taking first place in all events at 25m. Scott Ribbons won freestyle and backstroke, Billy Heseltine breaststroke and fly.

The girls were not far behind with first places for Hannah Ingham freestyle, Jenna Martin backstroke, and two second places for Melina Burwood breaststroke and fly.

The 10 yrs swimming 50m continued in that vein, with the girls having a clean sweep, first places for Atlanta Jarvis freestyle and breaststroke, Jenna Utting backstroke and fly.

The boys were not quite so successful, but Sam Skuse led throughout to win the breaststroke and earn third place in fly.

In a hard race Ryan Webb never gave up but had to be content with fifth place in the freestyle.

Clarissa Burwood for the 11yrs stayed with the leaders all the way but just missed out on first place in the freestyle, coming second. She had a fourth place in breaststroke.

Natasha Mansfield Holly kept the club in touch with Dereham with points from her third in backstroke and fifth in fly.

The boys found keen competition but were always in the hunt with second place for Aaron Hudson in freestyle and fourth in fly.

Miles Houghton got a second in breaststroke and a fourth in fly.

The 12yr girls all recorded new PBs with Lauren James winning the breaststroke in fine style and taking third in fly.

Amelia Driver was back to form for a second place in the backstroke and fourth in freestyle.

The boys found the going tough but contributed valuable points with two fourth places.

They went to Jack Collins, freestyle and backstroke,with Joseph Windsor Freeman finishing fourth in fly, and fifth in breaststroke.

This result puts Great Yarmouth into the top gala in the next round.
