Yarmouth League trio reach county’s last 16

Great Yarmouth and District Football League

It was the turn of some of the second division clubs to take centre stage as they competed in the Norfolk Primary Cup.

After the third round was completed the league had three teams in the last 16 of the county-wide competition.

Belton secured their place in the next round with a comprehensive victory over Scarning United of the Central and South Norfolk League at Burgh Castle. Belton never looked in trouble and showed their superiority with a 6-1 win.

South Yarmouth made it through with a 2-1 win at Norton Athletic Reserves of the Lowestoft League. However, it was not plain sailing as the home side had a ‘goal’ ruled offside in the closing stages and hit the woodwork twice. Lady Luck was shining through though for the league side as the joined Belton in round four.

Caister Youth seem to be saving their form for the cups as their progress has belied their league position. They turned over Haisboro Athletic of the NEN League, who boasted a 100 per cent record themselves, by 4-2.

The league, however, lost Arches who went down by the odd goal in three against Northwold S&SC on Mill Lane, while MK United Reserves also went out, losing 4-2 to Diss A.

On to the league front, Wellington picked up their first points in the league with a 6-3 win over Martham A which included strikes for Johnny Smart and Tom Collins.

Caister CC meanwhile moved joint top with Carpathians by winning 2-1 at Prostar Windows. However, they sit second due to goal difference.

In Division One the only two unbeaten sides in the league met on the Beaconsfield as champions Catfield met the 100 per cent Bohemians.

Catfield took an early lead through Mark Allen. Despite the best efforts of the visitors, the champions sealed the points with a Paul Thompson strike.

Meanwhile there was a real goal bonanza at Lynn Grove as Yarmouth Peelers played championship challengers MK United. A real see-saw game finished 6-6 which not only boosted Peelers but dented the MK title challenge. MK have to travel again this week to replay their Junior Cup game with Marlingford.

Caister United A’s luck does not appear to be getting better as they went down 5-0 at Yarmouth International. However, with a new manager in place and players on the way, the club hopefully will now see better times.

Albion, meanwhile, bounced back from last week with a 5-0 win over Feathers. Norfolk and Chance collected three more points as they edged a seven-goal thriller over GY United.

The league is delighted to announce its new club of the month scheme which has been launched. All clubs will be judged over different areas with the team made club of the month announced on December 7, which will see a new match ball presented to the winners.
