RUNNING: On a cold and windy morning Great Yarmouth Road Runners arrived at Frettenham for the Coltishall Jaguars 10K race.

A field of just under 200 runners were pleased to see the sun come out and the rain hold off.

First home for the Road Runners was Steve Dady in 42nd with 43:29. Next was Sean Jermy in 83rd with 49:11, using the run as Marathon pace practice for the Eindhoven Marathon next week. Just behind was Lorrain Dawson in 96th with 51:02, feeling a bit disappointed with the time. Ivan Lees was 131st with 55:51. After his parkrun the day before, he ran well.

After last week’s rather poor showing in the weekly parkrun, it was back to the more usual stronger showing this week.

Out of the 73 runners seven of these came from the Road Runners club. First over the finishing line was Matthew Sutton in a time 20:13 finishing sixth in the field.

Andrew Baker and Stephen Leeves continued their battles over the distance with this week’s winner being Baker in 21:10 (10th) over Leeves time of 21:19 (11th). Paul Westgate showed his usual determination and finished just outside another pb in 22:29 (18th).

Paul Spandler continued his training for his upcoming steeplechase race later this month in finishing in a time of 22:41 (32rd), beating off the challenge from Ivan Lees who completed the event in 24:56 (33rd). Ivan was the only Road Runner this week to obtain a pb.

Peter Spandler, also training for the obstacle race steeplechase, came back in a time of 27:24 (42nd).

Some of the regular parkrun entrants will be entering the East Coast Run on Sunday, October 24. This event is a 10k distance which starts in the Saint George’s Park in Great Yarmouth at 10.30am.

With entries going well, the event organisers are hoping for a large field to beat last year’s total, but the more locals running the better.

Training plans are included in the Great Yarmouth Mercury who are the race’s media partners, as well as a copy of the entry form.
