On Saturday a few athletes from the Great Yarmouth & District Athletic Club competed in the Eastern Counties Athletics Championships at Cambridge.

On a windy day with strong head winds fast times were not likely.

Phoebe Baker, competing in the under 15 girls age group, came 2nd in her 100m(13.59s) heat to reach the final. With the headwinds blowing stronger for the final, times were getting slower and Phoebe ran well to finish 4th in 12.71sec just missing out on a medal.

In the 200m she looked comfortable in qualifying for the final with a time of 27.77s. In the final she produced a great run to take the silver medal in a time of 27.44s.

Emily Anderson did not quite hit her best form but a jump of 4.44m in the long jump gave her 8th place and in the discus she threw 21.59m for 5th place. In the under 17 boys age group Tom Burgess ran a PB in the heats of the 400m of 52.37s to finish 2nd to earn a place in the final in a very tough race Tom ran well but just missed out on a medal in finishing 4th in 54.96s.

Mark Phillipson ran 25.79s to finish 4th in the 200m heats this was good enough for a place in the final where he finished 7th, clocking a time of 26.32s. Some good performances in a good standard of competition.
