Yarmouth sunk by Stone boundary blitz

Great Yarmouth crashed to a second successive Norfolk League Division One defeat on Saturday as they went down by seven wickets at home to Norwich Bystanders.
With the sixth toss out of six duly lost Yarmouth were asked to bat first in sunny but very windy conditions. Yarmouth lost their captain early but Hak and Sole took the score to 65 before the drinks break wove its magic once again.
Hak (44) holed out in the deep immediately after the restart and Sole (22) followed shortly afterwards. Thompson (27) and Simon Ruddick (19) continued positively and took the score to 110.
With wickets in hand there were hopes of a good total but some excellent bowling saw the remaining 12 overs yield only 30 runs with the last five wickets falling for just three runs.
Yarmouth took to the field knowing they needed an exceptional performance to defend their total. With both regular openers unavailable the new ball went to Richie Ruddick and Alex Shreeve and they made the most of the opportunity, reducing the visitors to 11-3.
Any hopes of a win were soon taken away by the opposing captain Stone who proceeded to dispatch the Yarmouth attack to all parts of the ground. Ably supported by Tahiliani (42) the target was knocked off without further loss. Stone finished on 87 not out with 78 of the runs coming in boundaries.
Apollo Tavern Man of the Match – Richie Ruddick – 2-27 and 15 runs.
