Three athletes from Yarmouth, all members of the Great Yarmouth & District Athletics Club, represented the Norfolk Schools Athletics Association in the English Schools Athletics Championships at Gateshead on Friday and Saturday and put in some breath-taking performances.

On the Friday, competing in the 200m junior boys’ heats, Dominic Burnham ran an outstanding race in winning his heat in 22.97 – a personal best by nearly half a second and a national standard performance gained him a place in the final.

Richard Taylor was also in action in the senior boys 200m and his 2nd place in a time of 22.03 also secured a place in the final.

On the Saturday all three athletes from Yarmouth were involved in finals. Natoya Rimmer, competing in the junior girls high jump, had a good day’s competition. Equalling her best ever jump of 1.63m she secured 3rd place and a bronze medal. With another year in this age group next year could be even better.

Dominic Burnham, running in the 200m final, had a great start and was just leading coming into the finishing straight but just started to fade in the last 20m and finally finished 4th in 23.2, still a great performance.

Richard Taylor ran a great bend but could never quite get to the front runners and finished strongly in 5th place in his final with an outstanding time of 21.80 again a personal best. To finish in 3rd, 4th and 5th places in this top competition was outstanding and all achieved a national standard which is recognised as being in the very top group of performers.
