Meanwhile Martham Kites took on visitors Winterton in Norfolk League Sub Area C. Good wins on all rinks saw the Kites take full points. Individual scores: were 25-7 (highest rink of Maureen Brighton, Jeff Turner and Elaine Donovan), 23-10 and 22-11. The overall score was 70-28.

In Norfolk League Area C Martham Harriers hosted Hemsby.

After winning on two of three rinks the Harriers recorded a comforatble 7-2 win overall victory over their neighbours with a combined score of 63-37.

Despite losing by three shots, Jean Claxton, Les Foster and Terry Sewell did well to fight back from being 18-6 down on the 13th end to make a game of it.

Best rink went to Mike Fisher, Edna Land and Colin Starkings (25-8).

In the Broadland Charity Shield Martham played host to Hickling.

Being the second leg of the tournament and starting with a large deficit, it was always going to be a big ask for Martham to respond to Hickling’s good home win.

However, Martham fought to the end, with Heather Nichols, Maureen Brighton and Paul Ulrich narrowing losing by two shots and Louis Renham, Fred Brighton and Jean Claxton pulling back to 16-17 going into the last end, only to drop a three and suffer a 16-20 defeat.

Ray Bourne, Nigel Seggie and Elaine Donovan were off to a good start and never looked back, being Martham’s only winning rink (30-9), but Terry Granfield, Keith Davis and Jude Ward couldn’t respond to Hickling’s D Broom, D Beales and S Elliott and were on the wrong end of a 25-11 scoreline.

The overall score was 73-72 to Martham but it’s Hickling who go through to the next round.
