GORLESTON'S youth team came out on top against their Great Yarmouth Town counterparts in a competitive derby encounter.

The match had been postponed twice previously due to poor weather conditions.

Gorleston were one up almost immediately as Yarmouth goalkeeper Jake Sharpe was caught unawares from a Jordan Woolston effort which somehow found the back of the net.

A minute later the visitors thought they had found parity but the effort was ruled out for an offside infringement.

The goal was the perfect tonic the young Greens needed and although edging the play for the next 20 minutes, Gorleston couldn't increase their lead and Yarmouth became more and more a force looking particularly dangerous at corners and set-pieces.

It was a competitive affair played at a high tempo as both teams showed desire to win the local derby.

In the 33rd minute Eddie Short finished well from a whipped free kick that fell to the defender in the box. This kicked Yarmouth into life and they created numerous chances for the remainder of the first half.

In the Gorleston camp, the first half whistle couldn't come quick enough.

The second half started in contrast as Gorleston took a foothold in the game, Kyle Harvey-Harris scoring from a cross-cum-shot for which Sharpe was unsighted.

The midfield duo of Scott Hodges and Nathan Welton were now well on top and with the returning Brandon Ingram causing problems all over the pitch Gorleston deservedly increased their lead with the goal of the game from man of the match Simeon Randell who finished off a flowing one-touch move which carved open the Yarmouth defence.

Yarmouth's attempts to get back into the game were well rejected by the confident keeping of Jack Woolnough and solid defending of Lawrence Taylor, Simeone Lee, captain Matty Wright, Simeon Randell.

And with Owen Smith covering every blade of the perfect Emerald Park pitch Gorleston continued to have the better chances and both Brandon and Kyle went close.
