BOXING star of the future, Paulius Macivicuilius, 18, from Great Yarmouth, has boxed his way to victory at the Royal Navy Junior ABAE Championships, which took place at Everton Park Sports Centre, Liverpool at the weekend.

Macivicuilius, from Kingfisher ABC saw off stiff competition in the 75 kg final of the competition from Callum Cotton representing Parsons Cross ABC.

Macivicuilius said: “It feels great to win, I feel like a champ. I have listened to my trainers and worked hard to be here. Now I am going on to 4 Nations and hopefully box for England.”

This year marks the third year of a successful partnership between the Royal Navy and the Amateur Boxing Association of England (ABAE). It forms an important part of The Royal Navy's drive to increase awareness of the careers available in the Naval Service, and also secures Navy involvement at ABAE training camps and the option for the Royal Marines Sports Presentation Team to visit over 700 ABAE affiliated clubs across England.

Captain of Naval Recruiting, Captain Chris Alcock said: “We would like to offer all the boys involved our congratulations on their fantastic achievements. Our partnership with the ABA has proved a real success so far. Tenacity and spirit, as shown by our nation's young boxers, are valued qualities both in and out of the ring - by joining forces with the ABA, we are really able to help showcase the future talent of Britain.”

Former World Featherweight Champion Barry McGuigan MBE, added: “The Royal Navy ABA Junior and Schoolboy Championships have spawned a whole host of great boxers over the years, and some of the talented young boys taking part in this year's competition could well be going for gold at London 2012. It's great to see that the future of the nation's boxing talent is so strong.”
