A long journey proved fruitful for students of the Phoenix Karate Schools at the weekend when four competitors returned with one gold and two silver medals from the Ensival Cup in Verviers, Belgium.
William Mortimer and Leighton Kerr failed to gain medal positions this time but 10-year-old Billy Baler from Hopton battled through a large category to take the gold with some precise shots.
Adult Samantha Mortimer came away with a respectable Silver in both Shobu Ippon and Shobu Sanbon.
Coach Vivianne Trorey 4th Dan, who refereed at the tournament said: “Despite the long journey the squad did exceptionally well in such a strong field.”
