Former Eastenders star James Alexandrou takes the lead in the national tour of thriller The Black Veil calling at Lowestoft's Marina Theatre on Tuesday and Wednesday.

This chilling thriller, based on the short story by Charles Dickens and adapted for stage by John Goodrum, also stars Andrew Ryan.

It's a winter's evening, toward the close of the year 1800, a young doctor (James Alexandrou) is sitting by the fire in his parlour listening to the wind beating the rain against the window. A visitor arrives from the dark streets, dressed in deep mourning, the upper part of her figure carefully muffled in a black shawl; her face, as if for concealment, is covered by the black veil.

The woman appears distressed and frightened but what is her deadly secret? What terrifying and tragic mystery lies behind her shroud? What shocking events await the new doctor as he ventures in the darkest, most miserable parts of London?

James Alexandrou is best known for his ten-year role as Martin Fowler in BBC1's Eastenders. He made his West End debut in a piece of new writing, reviving the part of Grim in In My Name following a successful run at the Old Red Lion, before going on to play the lead role of Paul Baumer in the tour of All Quiet On The Western Front.

Last year, he played Romeo at Shakespeare's Globe.

Performances run nightly at 7.30pm with a special mid week matinee on Wednesday at 2.30pm.
