A PERFORMANCE of four Sonatas for piano and violin by Brahms, Mozart and Schubert will be held at St Lawrence's Centre for Training and The Arts in South Walsham on March 13 at 7.

A PERFORMANCE of four Sonatas for piano and violin by Brahms, Mozart and Schubert will be held at St Lawrence's Centre for Training and The Arts in South Walsham on March 13 at 7.30pm.

It will be given by Alex Demetriou (violin) and Mai Kawabata (piano).

The programme consists of Brahms' Sonata in G, Op.78, Mozart's Sonatas in B flat, K454 and E flat, K302, and Schubert's Sonata in A, D754.

Both artists have strong connections to East Anglia.

Mai Kawabata, who was born in Japan and grew up in Australia, read music at Cambridge and is currently Lecturer in Music at UEA where she teaches music history, theory and analysis, and performance.

She also has a PhD in musicology from the University of California, Los Angeles and has recently completed a book - “The Cult of Paganini - Virtuosity, Demonic Power and The Violin” (Boydell & Brewer 2010).

She gives regular concerts with her piano trio as well as lectures both at home and abroad.

Alex Demetriou was born in London to Hungarian and Greek Cypriot parents.

As a child he gave solo piano performances in London and gained a full music scholarship to the City of London School.

From 1996 to 1999 he attended UEA where he gained a BA in music and, after a year studying in Paris, he returned to UEA to complete a Masters Degree in Musical Performance.

Alex is active as a soloist, chamber musician, accompanist and teacher and holds a piano teaching post at Norwich School.
