They have been enjoying a week of summer workshops culminating in a showcase for parents and friends at the Pavilion Theatre this week.
Guest tutors have covered singing, jazz and tap dance, drama as well as a special session with Dende Collective, professional Brazilian actors who delivered a puppet making and theatre-drama workshop.
Meanwhile, behind the scenes, organisers are busy preparing for the group to face its biggest challenge yet Les Misérables School Edition. This show is the choice for its November production at the Pavilion Theatre, Gorleston which they traditionally stage in aid of Children in Need.
It is based on the famous novel by Victor Hugo. The story begins in early 19th century France and follows the life of paroled ex-convict Jean Valjean and the effects of his actions on those around him against a background of revolution.
Director Mary Carter said: “Amateur groups are not normally permitted to perform shows still running in the West End but producer Cameron Mackintosh was so keen that young people should have the opportunity to experience this marvelous piece of theatre at first hand that he agreed to this abridged version adapted specially for schools and youth groups. Although it has been performed in Norwich and Dereham this is the first time the show will have been seen in the Yarmouth and Gorleston area.”
She added: “This is a vocally demanding show but we have a talented cast and they are eager and ready to take on the challenge. I am delighted that John Stephens has agreed to be musical director, as he has worked on the show before.”
The show runs from Wednesday November 19 to Saturday 22 at 7.30pm nightly with a matinee on the Saturday at 2pm. Tickets are on sale now priced £9 for adults and £5 for children available from the Pavilion Box Office Tel: 01493 662832.
