THE cast of Gorleston Theatre Company's production of “Cinderella” is ready and waiting for opening night at the Hippodrome, Great Yarmouth on Wednesday .

The pantomime has a very strong cast with a mixture of long-standing members alongside newcomers to the company, and has the usual panto elements of fun, farce and frivolity.

It is directed by Nick Ball, a lecturer in Performing Arts at Great Yarmouth College, with choreography for the production by Ruth Patterson and Vicky Barnes. While these three members of the production team are concerning themselves with last minute rehearsals and adjustments, it all has a bit of an air of familiarity about it for them, as the last time Gorleston Theatre Company staged “Cinderella” in 1996, Nick was also the director, and Ruth and Vicky were both involved in the production too, but in very different ways.

Ruth, then aged 17, played the title role of Cinderella in the 1996 production at Gorleston Pavilion, while Vicky, aged 15, was also on stage in the show as a senior dancer. So, how different has it been being on the planning and organising side of the show, rather than building up to their own big moment on stage?

Vicky said: “It's definitely harder work and more stressful being involved with things from this side. You're not just worrying about yourself knowing what you are meant to be doing, as you are much more concerned with the overall picture and hoping that it all does pull together.”

Ruth added: “It is good to have the opportunity to use your own ideas though, rather than being directed by someone else all the while; it gives you a chance to try out things that have been in your head for a long while, and it is satisfying seeing it all come together.

“Although Vicky and I have kept in touch over the years, this is actually the first time we have performed together since our last show with The Dancers School in 1997.”

Cinderella will be performed nightly at the Hippodrome, Great Yarmouth from Wednesday January to Saturday, January at 7.30pm, with matinees on Saturday and Sunday at 2.30pm.

Tickets are now on sale from the Hippodrome Box Office, 01493 844172, or book online at www.hippodromecircus.co.uk .
