THE final concert in the Great Yarmouth International Concert Series, involving some of Europe's finest young musicians, take place next week.

On Tuesday, April 27, The European Union Chamber Orchestra will perform a concert of popular classical music.

They will be joined by the 33-year-old Freddy Kempf as soloist, a young pianist and Vice President of the King's Lynn Festival.

The programme is one for classical fans old and ne, with pieces which have permeated the public consciousness outside the world of orchestral music.

The concert begins with the familiar strains of Mozart's Eine Kleine Nachtmusik, one of Mozart's most recognisable pieces.

The programme continues with Mozart as Kempf joins the orchestra for a performance of the composer's Piano Concerto No.14.

The popular works continues with the 20th century Barber's Adagio for Strings, which has featured in numerous movies including Oliver Stone's Platoon and David Lynch's The Elephant Man.

The performance and the series then conclude with Haydn's sombre and beautiful Symphony No 49 - La Passione.

The European Union Chamber Orchestra was formed in 1981 and has since gained a worldwide reputation as a musical ambassador for the European Union.
