TWO local dance students will be appearing on stage at the Theatre Royal, Norwich, later this year alongside professional dancers.

Clare Carter from Brundall and Katie Green from Gorleston, are both pupils of The Dancers School in Gorleston, and successfully auditioned for the English Youth Ballet in Norwich last month.

Their involvement with the company means that they will be dancing at the Theatre Royal in three performances of the full length ballet Sleeping Beauty at the beginning of July.

Rehearsals for the ballet mean they will be giving up many weekends from the end of this month until the performances, but both girls, who have been dancing from a very young age, know that the time spent in rehearsal will be well worth it.

Clare, 17, is a student at Norwich City College where she is studying technical theatre to complement her performing talent, while 13-year-old Katie is a pupil at Cliff Park High School.

The auditions were particularly rewarding for Katie, who was also chosen to dance with EYB last year in The Nutcracker, as she was awarded a scholarship by the company which will cover all expenses incurred by the project.

Dance teacher Jayne King said: “Not only are Clare and Katie getting the chance to dance alongside professional dancers, they are being coached by very experienced and talented people, and they are also getting the chance to work on a large stage in a top professional theatre.”
