Members of Gorleston-based Dusmagrik Young People’s Theatre Company will be kept busy over half-term putting the finishing touches to their latest production The Wizard of Oz.

The musical based on the book by L Frank Baum with music and lyrics from the well known MGM motion picture score will be presented at the Pavilion Theatre in Gorleston from November 19 to 21 at 7.30pm nightly with a matinee on the Saturday at 2pm.

The story follows the adventures of Kansas schoolgirl Dorothy Gale and her little dog Toto as they try to escape the clutches of local busy body Miss Gultch and travel to Munchkinland and the Land of Oz only to discover there’s no place like home.

Playing the role of Dorothy is 14 year old Emily Takman and playing Toto is Ruby, owned by Sandra Sexton. Ruby came to Sandra from Meadowgreen Dog Rescue and although still only three has played Sandy in Annie for Lowestoft Players to critical acclaim and helped her owner raise over £5,000 for dog rescue through various events.

Director Mary Carter said: “We are delighted to have Ruby play Toto. Her stage experience means she is not fazed by all the children playing Munchkins and she is a very friendly little dog with lots of appeal. It just gets tricky when she hears any mention of “ruby slippers”. She thinks she’s being called!”
