IT will be back to the Swinging Sixties at a Summer Ball being held to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Caister Volunteer Lifeboat Service.The event is on Saturday, August 8 at the Ocean Room in Gorleston and the original 1960s band The Fourmost have been booked to appear.

IT will be back to the Swinging Sixties at a Summer Ball being held to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Caister Volunteer Lifeboat Service.

The event is on Saturday, August 8 at the Ocean Room in Gorleston and the original 1960s band The Fourmost have been booked to appear.

The lifeboat became independent from the RNLI in 1969 and to mark the achievements of the local people who made it possible to successfully run and improve the service a series of events are being held - the ball being just one of them.

Dress is black tie or 1960s dress for the ball which includes a meal.

-Ormesby Village Hall's garden is the outside setting for a professional performance of Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing for an audience invited to bring picnics, rugs and chairs.

The Gloucester-based Rain or Shine Theatre Company has included the village venue on a 65-date tour following the success of last year's event. The bard's classic tale pairs the fortune-hunting Petruchio and the shrewish heiress Katharina - chaos ensues while others see her younger sister Bianca as the prize.

The performance is at the Village Centre on Saturday, June 6 at 7.30pm, picnics from 6pm. Tickets cost �12 for adults �6 for children and are available by phoning 01603 6303000 or online at www.theatreroyalnorwich.co.uk.

-St Nicholas' Church in Great Yarmouth will host an event by Yarmouth Choral Society conductor John Stephens on June 20.

The programme will include Haydn, little organ mass, Poulenc's Gloria and highlights from Mendelssohn's Elijah. Tickets are available from Allen's Music Centre in Yarmouth and Aldreds estate agents in Gorleston.

-GORLESTON Theatre Company will be performing Happy As A Sandbag at the Time & Tide Museum in Great Yarmouth to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the outbreak of the Second World War.

Auditions will be held at The Dancers School in Gorleston at noon on Sunday, June 7.

A spokesman for the company said: “We would love to see people there who want to take part in this fun nostalgic show. The show involves singing, and taking part in sketches, with tributes to many including Winston Churchill, Max Miller, Rob Wilton and Vera Lynn to name but a few.”

Those going along to the audition should take along tapes or CDs they want to sing to, although there will be some songs already there. Excerpts of the script will also be there for people to have a look at and audition with.

The performances will be from September 3-5 and 18-19, so before going along to the auditions ensure you will be free for these dates.

-ACOUSTIC rock trio The Revolves have three gigs this weekend.

The band play The Canary in Norwich tonight, the Fastolfe Arms in Gorleston on Saturday and Lady of the Lake at Oulton Broad at 6pm on Sunday.

The band play hits from the 50s and 60s by artists such as Chuck Berry, Little Richard, The Beatles, Eddie Cochran and Buddy Holly.
