Bits and bobs from across the borough

GREAT Yarmouth Local History and Archaeological Society meets at 7.30pm tonight in the Northgate Room of Great Yarmouth Library, and will take the form of an illustrated lecture by Lily Hodges on ‘The Acle Dig’. The dig was organised by Acle High School and Acle Parish Council but overseen by by Lily Hodges and Dave Whitmore of Norfolk Landscape Archaeology and was based on an 11m circular pit on Springfield Road in Acle. Over 10,000 items were found and the lecture will hopefully begin to tell the interpretation of the largely Roman site.

CLOUD Appreciation Society member and meteorologist David Kelf will give a talk at Acle High School on Tuesday (2pm). On Saturday, March 26, a workshop called Herbs for Home Health will be given by Su Rayner, of Meadow Herbs, from 10am to 2pm. The fee is �15.

GREAT Yarmouth Gilbert and Sullivan Society is giving a concert on Saturday, April 2. Starting at 7pm, the cast will perform songs from shows including The Pirates of Penzance and The Mikado at Christchurch, Great Yarmouth. Tickets are �5, children free, at the door or at Allen’s Music Centre, Market Gates.

THE civilian committee of Caister Air Cadet Squadron will host a craft fayre next Saturday at Filby Village Hall (11am to 4pm) with a large selection of stalls, plus refreshments available.

A FREE FundayMonday event on March 28 is aimed at all ages at The Priory Centre, Great Yarmouth, 10am to 2pm. Activities include arts, crafts, the silliest pet photo competition, bowling and story telling. The day will also see the launch of the Whoops a Daisy project helping people in sheltered housing or residential homes to grow a garden in their rooms. The mayor will officially launch it at 12 noon. Help is also available on the day to fill out Census forms.

A NEW over-18s night has been organised at the Ocean Room by Kelly Edwards, together with local DJs Joe Routledge and Mikey Phillips. Bringing the latest in house, Sophistifunk launched last month with a reported good crowd and great atmosphere. The next night takes place on Friday, April 1. Tickets, �3 before 11, �5 after.
