THE Friends of John Grant School for children with special needs are holding a fun day tomorrow from 12-4pm. There will be plenty of fun for all ages with arena events, stalls, barbecue, bouncy castle and raffle. The school, in St Georges Drive, Caister (next to the water tower, turning opposite Haven Holiday Centre) is raising money to extend its swimming pool.

A SPECIAL celebration, God’s Glory Our Treasure, will be held next weekend at Horsey’s All Saints Church with the church open from 10-5pm with flowers, displays and refreshments. Folk singer Marina Florence and teller of tales, Theo Fanthorpe, appear at the church at 7pm on the Saturday. Tickets cost �6.50 which includes a glass of wine and nibbles. On Sunday at 3pm there is a piano recital by Theo Ford-Sayers and a Songs of Praise at 6.30pm with the Rev Albert Cadmore. For more details, call 01493 393314. All Saints is a unique round tower Saxon church with a beautiful thatched roof. It is hidden among the trees in a quiet corner of the broads by the coast. Flora and fauna are in abundance and it is home to the swallowtail butterfly.

A FESTIVAL of Flowers and Crafts will be held held at St George’ s Church, Rollesby, next weekend, from 10-5pm. On the Sunday there will also be a Songs of Praise at 6pm. At the same time, a display of local photographs and parish magazines will be on show in the village hall during the festival, together with a display by Rollesby and District WI to mark the Royal British Legion’s 90th Anniversary. Refreshments will be available in the village hall.

THE Pride of Great Yarmouth Lodge, Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes, will be holding an open night on Wednesday at the Rumbold Arms, at 6pm. All Brothers, non Brothers and their partners and wives are invited as members give an insight into the Noble Order, which works for charities. It will be the fourth anniversary of the Lodge and there will be a buffet and a raffle in aid of a local young woman with Downs Syndrome. All raffle money will be donated to help buy the young woman equipment for her wheelchair. Anyone interested learning more about the Buffs is welcome to go along. PUPILS from Great Yarmouth primary and high schools, as well as students from Yarmouth College will come together for a concert, Summer Serenade. The event will be held on Wednesday at St Nicholas’ Church, Yarmouth and will feature a programme of “different” music. There will be a mixture of soloists, choirs, singers and instrumentalists. It is the first time the Great Yarmouth Schools’ Music Association has organised a concert in the summer of this type and organisers are hoping it will be successful enough to continue each year, similar to the annual schools Carol Festival at the Hippodrome.Tickets are �5 and available from Allens Music Shop or at the door on the night.

THE Mayor of Great Yarmouth, Cllr Barry Coleman, bought a painting from The Guild Gallery, a not for profit community organisation based in Victoria Arcade. The painting will be given as a gift to the Mayor of Rambouillet, Yarmouth’s twin town. The artist, 81-year-old Pat Harrison of Yarmouth is one of the guild’s oldest members. The Guild Gallery opened in July 2009 for three months supported by Miller Developments and is to continue at least until December this year. There are just under 200 paintings and prices to suit all budgets, also individual crafts, from silk scarves, dichroic glass jewellery, knitted copper wire wall hangings etc. The gallery is run by volunteers on a rota system and all are welcome to come and browse.

ST Mary’s Church in Martham will play host to a brass concert of popular classics and classical pops tomorrow evening. Norfolk Wherry Brass will be playing from 7.30pm, with profits shared equally by the church and the band. Admission is �6, and �1 under 16s, on the door or from Naomi’s Flower Gallery, at 7 The Green or The Happing Shop, 35a High St.

GREAT Yarmouth Local History and Archaeological Society’s summer meeting will be a trip to Fritton Lake today and will be largely a follow up to the April lecture by Stuart Burgess on events there during the Second World War. The society’s summer coach tour is on Friday, July 29 and will visit Bury St Edmunds Cathedral, St Mary’s Church in that town and Lavenham. The cost of the trip is �18. A DARTS competition for the Peter Rowe Memorial Trophy will be played at the Lichfield Arms in Southtown tomorrow, Saturday. Prize of �100 to winner with an 8.30pm start.

GREAT Yarmouth Heritage Guided Walks are offering two walks this week, Sunday and Tuesday. On Sunday at 2pm, leaving from St Nicholas Church gates, is Rows, Fishwives and Body Snatchers. On Tuesday at 7pm the walk starts at the Tourist Information Centre along the seafront and takes you on an historical walk along the prom, the fishing industry, telling stories of gallantry on the seas, Nelson and the Jetty, through to the wonderful architecture that grew out of the 18th century tourist industry that still survives today. FIVE local artists have an exhibition of their work at Wymondham Arts Centre at the end of the month.

The Yarmouth Five Exhibition features work by Emrys Parry, Br�er Tidman, Katarzyna Coleman, Bridget Heriz and John Kiki. The exhibition runs from Tuesday, June 28 to Sunday, July 3 and the gallery is open Tuesday-Saturday 10am- 5pm, Sunday noon-5pm.
