HOW does your garden grow? Well, there’s a chance to see how others to it at Gorleston and District Horticultural Society’s Early Chrysanthemum and Dahlia Show on Sunday at the Shrublands Centre, Magdalen Way.

There will be sections for many types of chrysanthemums, dahlias, pot plants, fruit and vegetables as well as classes for people who like to cook, in the domestic economy section. Judging starts at 10.30am.

The show is being sponsored by Page Trailers Commercial and Domestic of Great Yarmouth, and will be open to the public in the afternoon, 12.30pm to 4.30pm. Refreshments and a tombola will be available and there is ample parking close by.

The show follows on from the successful summer show in July held on Marine Parade, Gorleston.

The next meeting of the Horticultural Society is at the Kevill Arms, Church Road, on Tuesday, September 13 at 7.30pm and it will feature a talk and slide show by Barry Wade on Delphiniums.

Everyone is welcome to all shows and meetings.

l FAIRHAVEN Woodland and Water Garden in South Walsham is staging its second Annual Dog Show on Saturday, September 10, from 10am to 4pm.

The event, which is sponsored by James Wellbeloved and Acle Feed and Seed, is a fun day for all dog lovers and an opportunity for local residents to demonstrate their pride in their dogs.

There are 11 categories in the show including best puppy, waggiest tail, best young handler, scruffiest mutt, prettiest bitch and most handsome male. It costs �1 to enter each category and all proceeds will go to Faith Animal Rescue, The Dogs Trust and Canine Partners.

There is no need to enter in advance, just take your dog along on the day and join in the fun.

Other activities are terrier racing, doggy line dancing and face painting. The Dogs Trust, Faith Animal Rescue Centre and Canine Partners will all be at the show, along with doggy stalls.

Admission is �2 adults, �1 children (under 5 free) and dogs free. The show is being staged next to the main car park with free parking.

l GREAT Yarmouth and District Photographic Society meets at the St Mary Magdalene Church Hall, Magdalene Square, Gorleston, to the rear of the church. There is an open night on the first meeting on September 14 with free tea or coffee from 7.30pm to 9.30pm. No joining fee for the first four weeks.

Members meet every Wednesday at 7.30pm, anyone interested should go along or call secretary Maurice Hood on 01493 669305 for details. Although the majority of existing members are using digital photography, there are still others using film in various formats from 35mm thru to 5” X 7” some in black and white and others in colour. Some members use basic compact digital cameras and others who use various types including SLR cameras.

l FOLLOWING last year’s very succesful reuinon at the Time and Tide Museum, the Old Priorians will be meeting again, at The Priory Hall on Thursday October 13 at 11am. All Old Priorians are welcome. Colin Brown is once again the organiser and looks forward to a great turnout and to seeing any photographs or other memorabilia people take along.

l GREAT Yarmouth and District Society of Artists will be holding an Annual Exhibition at the Library Galleries, at Yarmouth Library, from September 10-17. The free entry event is open daily 10am to 4pm but closed on the Sunday. There will be a board selection of original paintings for sale and to view.
