Villagers and visitors alike will be treated to an all singing all dancing fete and carnival in Hopton.

The event is now in its 10th year, and the theme for this year’s festivities is musical theatre.

The fete and carnival takes place next Sunday (August 21) and is free to attend, but organisers say that donations are most welcome.

The Hopton Summer Fete and Carnival organised by the Great Yarmouth Lions Club and Hopton-On-Sea Parish Council.

The event is supported by the Greater Yarmouth Tourism and Business Improvement Area Ltd.

As part of the theme, this year there will be a sing along to the songs to the well-known music from stage productions including Cats, Lion King, Chicago. The walking parade starts at 10.30am.

Mayor of Great Yarmouth, Cllr Malcolm Bird, will officially open the fete at 11am on the Recreation Ground, Lowestoft Road and judge the colourful outfits worn in the procession.

Acapella group The Testostatones will perform in the arena as the fete gets under way with acts TS Norfolk, The Mirage Eastern Dance Group, Edward Bates and Laura Frosdick and Phoenix Karate performing throughout the day. Frankies Guys from Potters Theatre Company will be closing the show at 3.30pm with an excerpt from The Jersey Boys.

There is also a flower arranging competition, and entries from individuals and Flower Clubs are welcome. There are 20 entries available and your arrangements should be on the Musical Theatre theme, maximum overall size 2ft 6ins. Entrants can gain access to the flower marquee from 9.30am to set up with judging taking place at 1pm. Entry is free. Cash prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd winners with rosettes.

Alan Gray of East Ruston Old Vicarage Gardens and Radio Norfolk’s Garden Party will be hosting a flower arranging demonstration in the large marquee at 2pm. Seats cost £2 per ticket and are limited.
